BEAM HANGER

A device used to support a scaffold below a beam.

BEAM HANGER (SHORING)

A wire, strap, or other hardware device which supports formwork from structural members.

BEAM POCKET

Opening left in a vertical surface in which a beam is to rest.

BEAM SADDLE

BEARER

A horizontal scaffold member, supported by posts or runners (ledgers),  upon which the platform rest.

BEARER BRACKET

See Roofing Bracket: A bracket used in sloped roof construction, having provisions for fastening to the roof or supported by ropes fastened to the roof or supported by ropes fastened over the ridge and secured to some suitable object.

BEARING WALL

A wall designed to support a vertical load plus its own weight.

BECKET HITCH

A knot used for tying a rope to an eye.

BENCH MARK

An mark on a permanent object used as a reference point for elevation.

BENT

See Frame: A basic scaffold component consisting of at least two support posts, a load bearing horizontal member and sufficient brace members to form a single unit.
