ELECTRICAL GROUND

A conducting connection between an electrical device and the

earth, or another conducting body that serves in place of the earth.

ELEVATING ASSEMBLY

A mechanisms used to vertically position a platform.

ELEVATION

An established elevation in relation to sea level or another point.

ELEVATION (DRAFTING)

A view of a structure in a vertical plane.

END BRACKET

A bracket used with tubulary frame scaffold specifically designed to extend the scaffold at the end.  Side Brackets and End Brackets are allways rated light duty and are for workers only.  No material can be stored on end or side brackets unless the bracket is engineered to accept a greater load.

END GUARDRAIL

A guardrail placed across the end of a scaffold platform or its extensions.

ENERGY ABSORBER See Shock Absorber.

SHOCK-ABSORBER - A component of a system that allows dissipation of energy by extending the deceleration distance.

EQUIVALENT

An alternative design or features that will provide an equal factor of safety.

EXPANDING SPIGOT

A device designed to expand and grip the inside of a tube. Used for

joining tubes end to end.

EXPOSED SIDES AND ENDS

OPEN SIDES AND ENDS - The edges of a scaffold platform that exceed the maximum

allowable horizontal distance away from a sturdy, continuous vertical surface (such as a building

wall) or a sturdy, continuous surface (such as a floor). This is normally a distance of 14- to 16-

inches, but may be greater or lesser depending upon the type of work to be performed on the

platform and the particular safety standard under which the work is being performed.
