U-BOLT

A U-shaped metal rod, threaded at its ends

U-HEAD

A U-shaped member for assembly on the end of a tube or screwjack to accept ledgers.

U-HEAD JACK

A U-Head fitted with a screwjack in order to adjust height.

UL

The common abbreviation for Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. This organization tests the safety aspect of a wide variety of equipment used in industry and in the home, in accordance with a set of engineering and design standards

ULTIMATE LOAD

The load at which failure occurs.

UPLIFT

An upward force acting on a scaffold or platform.

 

UPRIGHT

Another term for post or standard.

USER

An individual having access to or control over the equipment.
