C

CABLE

A conductor, or group of conductors, enclosed in a weatherproof sheath, that may be used to supply electrical power and/or control currents for equipment and to provide voice communication circuits.

CABLE RESTRAINT

Flexible wire mesh gripping devices designed so that the more you pull, the more it grips; used with swing stages to support the weight of the cable and to relieve stress upon the electrical wiring devices.

CAMBER

A slight (usually) upward curvature of a truss, beam, or form to compensate for anticipated deflection.

CANTILEVER

The portion of a structural member, which projects beyond its support.

CARBINER

A connector component generally comprised of a trapezoidal or oval shaped body with a normally closed gate or similar arrangement which may be opened to permit the body to receive an object and, when released, automatically closes to retain the object.

CARPENTERS' BRACKET SCAFFOLD

A scaffold consisting of a platform supported by brackets attached to a vertical surface.

CARRIAGE

A mobile assembly used for the movement and support of a work platform.

CARRICK BEND

A knot used to connect two ropes together.

CARRIER

A vehicle which provides mobility and support for the elevating assembly.

CASTER

A swivellable wheel, containing a wheel lock, a swivel lock or both, which is attached to the base of a scaffold tower for manual movement of the scaffold.
