SADDLE

An assembly structure over an apex of a building forming a base for a scaffold on the ridge or apex.

SADDLE PIN

CURVED BASE PLATE - An insert or coupling pin with a curved base designed to fit over the ledger, putlog or truss, and which provides a base over which additional scaffolds can be erected.

SAFE LEG LOAD

The load limit at which the item is to be used. Determined by dividing the ultimate load by an appropriate factor of safety.  The allowable load for the scaffold leg, post, or standard.

SAFETY BELT

A belt worn by a user to prevent a fall when attached to an anchor point.

SAFETY HARNESS

A system of straps worn by a user to arrest a fall when used as part of a fall arrest system.

SAFETY SCREEN

A wire or plastic barrier that protects the workers and passers-by below from dropped items.

SAWN SCAFFOLD PLANK

A board of sawn lumber whose grading rules and assigned design values is intended for flat use in a scaffold application. See Scaffold Plank (Sawn Wood).

SCAFFOLD

A temporary elevated or suspended work unit and its supporting structure used for supporting worker(s) or materials, or both.

SCAFFOLD - AERIAL

AERIAL DEVICE - A device which can extend and/or articulate, and is designed to position personnel and their tools and materials.

SCAFFOLD - PUMP JACK

A scaffold system which climbs a braced pole using a mechanical, clamping device, activated by pumping of a foot lever.
